You have landed at Incheon International Airport (ICN). Welcome to Korea! Now, how do you get to your hotel in downtown Seoul?
You have three main options: The fast AREX Train, the convenient Airport Limousine Bus, or a Taxi.
Depending on where you stay (Hongdae vs. Myeongdong), the best choice is different. As a local at K-Life Lab, I will help you choose the fastest and cheapest way.
AREX Express Train (Orange)
This is a premium train that runs non-stop from Incheon Airport (Terminal 1 & 2) directly to Seoul Station.
- Time: Approx. 43 minutes.
- Price: Approx. 11,000 KRW (Discount available online).
- Pros: Fastest way. Designated seats (very comfortable). Free WiFi. No traffic jams.
- Best For: Travelers staying near Seoul Station or transferring to the subway line 1 or 4.
AREX All-Stop Train (Blue)
This is a regular subway train that stops at every station (including Hongdae).
- Time: Approx. 60 minutes to Seoul Station.
- Price: Approx. 4,150 - 4,750 KRW (Use your T-Money card).
- Pros: Cheapest option. Stops directly at Hongdae (Hongik Univ. Station).
- Cons: No reserved seats. It gets extremely crowded during rush hour with commuters. Hard to carry big luggage.
- Best For: Backpackers staying in Hongdae.
Airport Limousine Bus
These are luxury buses that take you directly to major hotels and tourist districts (Myeongdong, Gangnam, Dongdaemun).
- Time: 60 - 90 minutes (Depends heavily on traffic).
- Price: 17,000 - 18,000 KRW.
- Pros: No stairs! The driver loads your luggage. Drops you off right in front of your hotel area. Comfortable reclining seats.
- Cons: Expensive. Seoul traffic can be terrible on Friday evenings.
- Best For: Travelers with heavy luggage, families, or those staying in Myeongdong/Gangnam.
Summary: Which one should I take?
| Destination | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Hongdae | Take AREX All-Stop (Blue). It's direct and cheap. |
| Myeongdong | Take Bus 6001 or 6015. No subway transfers needed. |
| Seoul Station | Take AREX Express (Orange). Fastest. |
| Gangnam | Take Bus 6009 or 6020. Subway takes too long. |
K-Life Lab’s Tip
If you arrive during rush hour (7 AM - 9 AM or 5 PM - 7 PM), avoid the bus and taxi. The traffic jam into Seoul is real. Take the train (AREX) to save time!
